Structural Optimization and Mechanics (SOM)

The SOM group educates and develops techniques and methods for analyzing, designing and optimizing structures and systems.
The SOM group is part of the PME department.

Education

The SOM group contributes to the educational programme in both the Bachelor and Master phase. The group provides lectures on both the fundamentals of mechanical engineering, like statics and non-linear mechanics, and some special application fields, like microtechnology and optimization.

Research

SOM's main research focus is on modelling and optimization of precision, micro and smartsystems. This includes both fundamental and numerical research and experimental work. The main research themes are: optimization techniques, micro system fundamentals and design and biomechanics.
