At the department of Maritime and Transport technology of the Faculty of 3mE of Delft University of Technology dr.ir. Riaan van ‘t Veer is per March 2017 appointed as full professor Ship Hydromechanics.

Riaan van ‘t Veer (1969) studied Maritime Technology at the TU Delft. He graduated cum laude on the development of a numerical prediction tool for the hydrodynamic behaviour of catamarans, large ocean-going dubblehull ships. He obtained his PhD in 1998 with the dissertation Behaviour of Catamarans in Waves for which a new threedimensional theoretical theory was further developed to predict the complex interaction between waves and the catamaran.

After his promotion Van ‘t Veer worked as project manager in the Seakeeping department of MARIN, the Dutch maritime research institute in Wageningen. He was researcher in Europenan projects covering safety and dynamic damage stability, involved in fundamental research for the defense industry and he researched the behaviour of ships in extreme waves for various Joint-Industry projects. He continued his career in the offshore industry with Gusto Engineering in Schiedam which later became SBM Offshore. As manager of the hydrodynamic team he developed expertise in roll damping, slammingloads and green water risk for floating offshore constructions and ships.

Within the faculty 3mE Riaan van ‘t Veer will cover a wide area of hydromechanic topics and the development of thereof ranging from offshore application to fast going ships.
